when you need to solve an equation with fractions, the easiest starting point is to multiply all terms by the LCD.

In this case, LCD= 12

 

12[(3/4)x + 2/3 = 2]

 

9x + 8 = 24

 

9x = 16

 

x = 16/9

1)First separate everything with an x and everything without

3x/4=2-2/3

2)Combine the two numbers over a single denominator

3x/4=6/3-2/3=(6-2)/3=4/3     ...3x/4=4/3

3)Get the x by itself. (Its multiplied by 3/4, so you need to multiply by the inverse 4/3)

3x/4 *(4/3)=x     (left side)

4/3 *(4/3)=16/9  (right side)

and you get

x=16/9

 

So

1)separate terms with x from those without

2)combine terms on each side (in this case its just numbers on the right but you should combine x terms if you have them, i.e. 3x+2x=5x or x+x/2=3x/2)

3)Isolate x, as in multiply by the inverse of whatever x is multiplied by

4)you have your answer
