First multiply them out using the distributive property:

 

5 (2n +5) =10n + 25, and 7(5n +2) = 35n +14

 

So now you have 10n +25 = 35n + 14. Let's get all the n terms on one side and all the normal numbers on the other.

 

To do that, subtract 10n from both sides, then subtract 14 from both sides.

 

So the left side is now just plain old 11, and the right side is just 25n

 

so 11 = 25n, and 11/25 = n

When you have a(b+c), by the distributive property, the answer is ab+ac. Apply this to the problem above:

 

5(2n+5) = 10n+25

 

7(5n+2) = 35n+14

 

Therefore, 10n+25=35n+14

 

Get both of your terms with n on one side and everything else on the other side.

 

24-15=35n-10n

24-15=25n

9=25n

9/25=n
