Parts of the proceeds from a garage sale was $360 worth of $5 and $20 bills. If there were 2 more $5 bills than $20 bills, find the number of each denomination.

Please help me with this problem. I’ve been out of school for 20yrs and this all foreign to me.

Let the number of $20 dollar bills = x

Then the number of $5 bills = x+2

Multiply the numbers of each bill by their denomination

The total of bills 20x + 5(x+2) = $360

20x +5x + 10 =360

25x +10= 360

25x = 350

x = 14

Therefore there are 14 $20 bills = $280

And x+2 or 16 $5 bills = $80

For a total of $360
