You can figure the area of a RECTANGLE by multiplying together its two dimensions, called Length & Width.
If, for example, you want the area of a 4" by 8" rectangle, then you multiply those numbers, and say that the area is 32 square inches.
If the "4 and 2" refer to something else, you would have to describe that, clearly.
