what is the distance between (-3,1) and (2,1)

In general, the distance formula is useful for such problems.

But this one is simpler, because the line connecting those two points is parallel to the x-axis.

Therefore you can just ask yourself...how far apart are the points 2 and -3 (on the number-line)?

 

Answer is 2 - (-3)
