It's hard to say because you've left some things out. I'll assume you mean you are looking for two numbers, when you add them you get 14 and when you subtract them, you get 6. If that is correct, you've got the following two equations:
x + y = 14
x - y = 6
You don't say what class you are in, so let's assume algebra 2 and you are studying systems of equations. If so, the set up for adding the two equations is ideal. Add them and you get
2x = 20
x = 10
If you are not at systems yet, you would do a substitution into the equation.
x + y = 14
y = 14 - x
substitute into x-y = 6
x - (14 - x) = 6
x - 14 + x = 6
2x - 14 = 6
2x = 20
x = 10
Same answers, you substitute back into one of the equations and solve for y.
