Look at two things in this problem, the amount of each quantity and the amount of copper in each quantity.

 

           20% copper   90% copper   60% copper

amt.             x                  600 oz.         x + 600

 

amt copper    ,2x            .9(600)         .6(x + 600)

 

The last set gives us our equation.

.2x + .9(600) = .6(x+600)
