x

x+2
x+3 2
------ = ----
x+7 3
3(x+3) = 2(x+7)
3x + 9 = 2x + 14
x + 9 = 14
x = 5
5/7 becomes 8/12 = 2/3
so the original fraction is 5/7;
adding 3 and 5 to the numerator and denominator respectively produces 8/12 = 2/3
