In Biochemistry research, you will be using several molecular biology techniques and instruments. Sometimes these instruments do not give the data that you need. Problem-solving is used to determine the reason for this. Often times they use a scientific method approach is used where they test one part of the instrument at a time until the error is found.
On another note, if you are researching a molecule for a novel drug design, you need to use problem-solving to guess at which amino acid residues are important and determine how you could design an experiment using the available instruments.
