The area and the ratio of the length to width of a rectangle are given. Find the length and width for each rectange.

Note:  The length is the longer dimension in a rectangle so

actually the ration of length to width is 3:1

 

LW = 193

 

W = (1/3)L

 

L(L/3) = 193

L²/3 = 193

L² = 579

L = √579

L = 24.06

 

W = (1/3)(24.06) = 8.02

 

The rectangle is 24.06 by 8.02 ft

 

Do the 2nd problem the same way.  :-)

Hence

(1/3)(Length)²=193

(Length)²=193*3
