What is the range of possible times for the winner?

A stop-watch records the time for the winner of a 100 metre race as 14.3 seconds , measured to the nearest one tenth of a second

When we round to the nearest tenth ... or one decimal place ... we look

at the hundredth's unit ... 2nd decimal place.  If the second unit behind

decimal is 0 to 4, we drop all behind the 1st decimal and leave the

tenths unit the same.  If the 2nd decimal unit is 5 to 9 we round the

tenths unit up by 1 and then drop all after it.

 

The range is:  14.30 to 14.34 seconds

If we had reached 14.35 to 14.39 the time would have been rounded to 14.4 seconds
