Word problem

Cheryl, Rita and four of their friends go to a movie and share equallya 48-ounce bag of popcorn and three 48-inch licorice laces. Find the fraction of popcorn each gets and the fraction of licorice each gets.

6 people sharing something equally means that each gets one sixth of the thing shared.
So each person gets 8 oz of popcorn and one half of a 48" licorice lace.

three licorice laces, each 48" divided by 6 gives (3/6) of 48" = ½(48") = 24" of licorice per person.
