Sort out the important information and ignore the rest [TMI = too much information].
Let x = number of cookies in the second batch
"Each viziers ate six cookies from the second batch, but the king managed to get the remaining 2/5 of the second batch"
5 * 6 + (2/5)x = x
5*6 + (2/5)x = x [rewrite]
150 + 2x = 5x [multiply by 5]
150 = 3x [subtract 2x from both sides]
50 = x [divide each side by 3]
The second batch had 50 cookies.
Don't forget the question: "How many cookies did the king baked in total?'
"another batch, twice as big as the first" means the first batch had 25 cookies.
That makes 50 + 25 = 75 cookies baked in total.
Check (very important):
King rasmas had five evil viziers. One day he baked 25 cookies for his queen, but the viziers ate them all when he wasn't looking. So the king baked another batch of 50 cookies. Each viziers ate six cookies from the second batch (5*6=30), but the king managed to get the remaining 2/5 [20, because (2/5)*50=20] of the second batch to the queen. How many cookies did the king baked in total?
Is 25 + 50 = 75 ?
75 = 75 ?yes
