A rectangular garden is 5 ft longer than it is wide. Its area is 696 ft2. What are its dimensions?

Let X be the width of rectangle.Since the length is 5 times longer than width therefore we can write L = 5x 

Therefore 696 ft2 = 5X ft * X ft per rectangle area formula i.e A = L * W.

Therefore 5X^2 = 696 ft 

X^2 = 139.2 ft

X = 11.79 ft

 

Width = 11.79 ft

Length = 58.99 ft
