selling raffle tickets to raise money for new

uniforms and equipment. So far, league

members have earned $1,218 from selling

84 tickets. Use the equation 1,218 84 r

to find the cost of each raffle ticket. Then

use the answer to find what the total

earnings will be after 90 raffle tickets have

been sold.

Let's say 12 tickets were sold at $5 each. They'd have made 12(5) = $60, right?

 

1218 = 84r

 

84r means 84 times r. We do the opposite and divide by 84, and do it to both sides.

 

1218/84 = 84r/84

 

84r/84 = 1r, but we just write that as r, just like you aren't 1 Tyrone.

 

r = 14.5

 

So, each ticket is $14.50.

 

90(14.5) = 1305

 

Ninety tickets would make $1305.
