Is this sentence correct ? “ Even though barley has intrinsic value, it was not easy to convince people to use it as money rather than as just another commodity.

This is very picky, but I would suggest saying "inherent" rather than "intrinsic". When I think of "intrinsic" I think of a person's values or beliefs, whereas "inherent" is simply a trait or quality an item or person possesses.
