Apply the definition of slope.
m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
m = -2
y2 = p
y1 = 7
x2 = 7
x1 = 8
-2 = (p - 7)/(7 - 8)
-2 = 7 - p
p = 9
Test the answer.

use the formula for slope (m): -2 = (p-7) / (7-8).
now solve for p.
