How many gallons of paint will I need

Annie wanted to paint her living room walls blue. The room is 15 feet by 25 feet by 9 feet high. How many whole gallon cans of paint will she need if each gallon covers 350 square feet (ignore doors and windows)?

Michael P.

H = Height or room = 9 ft
L = Length or room = 25 ft
W = Width of room = 15 ft
Assuming the room is a rectangle.
 Therefore total area of room = 2*H*W + 2*H*L = 2*H*(W + L) = 2*9 ft*(25 ft + 15 ft)

Michael P.

A = 2* 9 ft*(40 ft) =9 ft*80 ft = 720 ft^2

gallons of paint required = 720 ft^2/(350 ft^2/gal) = 2.06 gal

2 gallons won't quite cover the room so you will need 3 gal of paint
