A lead ball is dropped into a lake from a diving board 5m above the water . It hits the water with a certain velocity and then sink with constant velocity in bottom . It reaches the bottom 5 second after it is dropped If g= 10m/s2 . Find depth of the lake and average velocity of the ball ?

Phillip R.

v = at = 10m/s
v= √2as = √2(10)(5) = 10m/s
And it follows the depth is 40m
Average velocity is 45m / 5s = 9m/s

I do not see how √2gh gives you 10 m/s, it is 1.41421*10*5=70.71 m/sec
I made a mistake calculating the Vf but I already fixed it.
Thanks anyway.

it's the square root of the whole product 2x10x5 = 100, The square of 100 is 10
I think that is apparent from the formula.
When I made my comment, I had not seen your correction.
Sorry.
