Mia's mother gives her $10 per week for allowance. Mia gets an additional $3 for every hour she spends watching her little brother. Mia wants to make at least $25 this week to spend shopping with her friends. Use this information to help you follow the directions below.

 

1.) Write an inequality, using variables, to represent the number of times that Mia has to watch her brother in order to get at least $25.

2.) Solve your inequality and describe the solution.

$10 plus $3 per babysitting hour is needed to be at least $25:

 

10 + 3b ≥ 25

 

subtract 10 from both sides

 

3b ≥ 15

 

To solve for b divide both sides by 3.

 

b ≥  __ hours

This will be the least number of hours she needs to watch her little brother in

order to have at least $25 or more for the week.
