What is the line parallel to y=-5/7+2 and passes through (-7,-2)

I believe you left the x out of the equation, and it should read y=-5/7x+2.  Since it is in slope-intercept form, we can use it to find the slope of our line.  Our line is parallel, so it will have the same slope, -5/7.  Since we are given a point on our line, we can use the point-slope form to find the equation of our line.

 

(y-y₁)=m(x-x₁)

(y--2)=-5/7(x--7)

y+2=-5/7x-5

y=-5/7x-7

 

Put the point into this equation to see if it works.

parallel lines have equal slopes

y=mx+b

y=(-5/7)x+b passing through the point (-7,-2)

-2=(-5/7)(-7)+b

-2=5+b

b=-2-5

b=-7
