I get √x^2+y^2 >= x+y but what after that?

SINCE WHEN DOES SQUARE ROOT OF (x² + y²⁾ = x+y ??

 

Review: do you recall the 3-4-5 right triangle?  Does √(3² + 4²) = 3 + 4 ???
