Im confused because there is a equal sign in a weird place

12.95 = y+3.19

Subtract 3.19 from both sides

12.95 - 3.19 = y

 

Which is the same as

 

y = 12.95 - 3.19 = ______

The equal sign is not in a weird place.  You have to perform algebra to solve for y.  In other words, get "y" by itself.  So by looking at the equation, how would you get "y" by itself?
