The blue bird taxi charges a 2.00 flat rate in addition to 0.55 per mile. Marcy only has 10.00. What is the farthest she can ride without going over her limit?

Let x = the number of miles.  The cost of the taxi ride is:

 

Cost = $2.00 + $0.55x

 

It must be less than $100 cause that's all poor Marcy has.

 

Cost < $100

2 + 0.55x < 100
