40% of the people who joined camp were males. 25% of the Females left the camp but 8 more males joined the camp. If there were 42 people left at the end of camp. Find the original amount of people who were at camp.

Males: 0.4N
Females: 0.6N

N - 0.25(0.6N) + 8 = 42

N - 0.15N + 8 = 42

1.00*N - 0.15*N +8 -8 = 42 - 8

0.85N = 34

85N = 3400

N = 3400/85 = 40

Oringinally, there were
40 people in the camp.
CHECK:
40 students in the camp.
40% of 40 = 16 males
60% of 40 = 24 = 40-16 females.

25% of 24 = 1/4 of 24 = 6 females left.

That leaves 34 students in the camp.
