Nonsense.

In terms of ESTIMATING, it's OK to estimate 800 as the addend to 247 or, even better as an estimate, use 250 + 800 to get the estimated answer 1050.

This is, however, rather silly since we can get the absolutely exact answer using addition--on paper or by calculator.
