Eight more than twice a number

Hi, for homework my teacher gave me this and I am confused, it says in bold print a few questions above it saying "Write an algebraic expression for each verbal expression"

Let's try an example that is similar:

 

Write an algebraic expression for 12 more than 3 times a number:

 

12 more than means we will add 12:  + 12

3 times a number:  3x

 

The expression is:  3x + 12
