A number less than 22

Hi, for homework my teacher gave me this and I am confused, it says in bold print a few questions above it saying "Write an algebraic expression for each verbal expression"

When they use a term such as "a number" then you just pick a variable

to represent the number, such as "x"

 

For "a number less than 22" we than have x is less than 22

 

In equation format this is:    x < 22
