To find the fraction spend with his customers, we divide the time spent with his customers with the total number of work hours.
Time spent with customers = 3½ hours = 5
total work hours 8½ hours 17
Remaining time spent = 8½ - 3½ = 5 hours
Fraction in his office = Time spent with customers = 5 hours = 12
total work hours 8½ hours 17
Another way to find the fraction of time spent in his office:
1- 5/17 = 12/17
