Mr. Teague has $440 in bills to pay off the second bill is four times the first bill the third bill is $20 more than the first bill Write an equation and solve it in order to find the cost of each bill

Answer 1

Bill 2:  4x where x is the first bill amount.

Bill 3: x+20

Total: 6x+20

 

6x+20 = 440

6x = 420

x = 70

 

The three bills to be paid are for $70, $90 and $280 (the latter is the second bill).
