Anne,
Observe that the sequence is decreasing by 1 1/4 each time.
so
7 1/2 - 1 1/4 = 6 1/4
and
6 1/4 - 1 1/4 = 5
therefore next in the sequence is
5 - 1 1/4 = ?
and so on and so on!
Hope that helps!

It's an AP, an Arithmetic sequence
with common difference = d = -5/4 = - 1.25
nth term = an = a1 +d(n-1)
a1 = 7.5
a2 = 6.25
a3 = 5
a4 = 3.75
a5 = 2.5
a6 = 1.25
a7 = 0
7.5, 6.25, 5, 3.75, 2.5, 1.25, 0, ...

The only thing I might have added was the next two or three answers in the sequence:
7.5, 6.25, 5, 3.75, 2.5, 1.25, ...
