a watermelon weighing 20 kg contains 96% of water by weight . it is put in sun for some time and some water evaporates . so that now it contains only 95% of water by weight . the new weight of watermelon would be ?

20 kg * 96% = 20 * 0.96 = 19.2 kg

So the original watermelon has 19.2 kg of water.

The rest are seeds, rhine, skin,fruit, etc. which

is only 20 - 19.2 = 0.8 kg.

 

The water evaporates but rest of the stuff

does not. So that 0.8 kg of stuff is still there.

 

20 x 95% = 20 * 0.95 = 19 kg

 

So there is only 19 kg of water after evaporation.

The total weight is 19 + 0.8 = 19.8.

 

To prove the answer is correct, the total weight

changes from 20 kg to 19.8 kg.

 

That is a percent decrease of (20 - 19.8)/20 =

                                                0.2/20  =

                                                 2 / 200 =

                                                    1 / 100 =

                                                             1%

as stated in the problem.

 

The new weight is 19.8 kg
