 Two friends were going to visit colleges in Washington state. Carol drove 350 miles  to visit Washington state university.   Amy drove 15 miles further than 1/3 the distance Carol drove to visit Central Washington University. How far did Amy Drive?

What is 1/3 of the distance that Carol drove?

 

350/3 miles = 116 2/3 miles

 

Now, add 15 miles to that.

 

116 2/3 + 15 = 131 2/3 miles = the distance that Amy drove to Central Washington U.
