Write the possible numbers this way and remember how you first learned to add:
# A
# B
--------
1 0 0
In order to get 0 in the one's place of the sum, (A+B) must equal 10 (that is, 0 with 1 as a carry). Given the numbers 4, 6, 2, 7, the only two numbers that add up to 10 are 4+6.
Since addition is commutative (that is, either number may be "on top"), we now have:
1
C 4
D 6
---------
1 0 0
(1+C+D = 10), so (C+D = 9), right? That's how you use 7 and 2. Does it matter whether you get 74+26 or 24+76 as your answer? No, because 74+26 = 100 and 74 + 26 = 100.
There are two possible answers !
