When Max first commenced working it took him 4 hours to make a cabinet, but now it only takes him 2 hours 40 minutes. By what fraction has Max shortened his time?

work.  It takes him 2/3 as much time so

that is a decrease of 1/3 from his 

original tume.

 

Your question is "4 hours minus what part of

4 hours equals 2 2/3 hours?

 

4 - 4x = 2 2/3

-4x = 8/3 - 4

-4x = 8/3 - 12/3

-4x = -4/3

x = 1/3

4hrs *60 mins= 240 mins

 

2hrs *60 mins +40 mins= 160mins

 

160/240= 2/3
