What is 4 tens+6 tens in standard form

I'm trying to figure out how to put this expression in standard for for my 4th grader. I don't understand when it puts it in this(4TENS+6tens) form. I don't understand what it is asking

4 Tens is 40, 6 tens is 60.  So the answer is 100

 

Kids are taught a lot more about place meanings in math now than when we were kids.  While it's confusing to many adults, it means the kids have a much better fundamental grasp of what numbers mean.  It's especially helpful when borrowing while subtracting.  I learned to do it, but didn't understand what it really was. kids today do.
