A running track is 15/16 mile long. A certain jogger runs the length of this track and measures the number of minutes it takes. He uses that to compute his speed in miles per hour and is surprised to find that the answer is the same number as the number of minutes he measured. How fast was he going?

Let x be the time in minutes as well as the speed in miles per hour.

 

 

15/16  = X ( x/60)

 

 900/16 = x^2

 

x = 30/4 = 15/2 = 7.5

 

He jogs for 7.5 minutes at 7.5 miles per hour.

 

distance = 7.5 mph x 7.5 minutes * 1 hour/60 min

 

           = .9375 miles = 15/16 miles
