Word math problem question

This is my math problem and I cant figure out how to properly lay out this math problem, Help would be greatly appreciated!

 

A charity event charged $8.50 per child and $14 per
adult. They had 201 guests and raised $2,550. Nobody
bothered to count how many of the guests were children
and how many were adults.

(In short i need to solve how many were children and how many were adults, I knows its a two problem equation)

let consider

No.of adult = x

no.of children = y

 

no. of guest is 201

x + y = 201  

 

x = 201 -y

 

charity event charged $8.50 per child and $14 per
adult.

14x + 8.50y = 2550

 

14(201 -y) +8.50 y=2550 ...............by subsituting x =201-y

 

2814 -14y + 8.50y =2550

 

-5.5 y = -264

y= 48

 

x = 201 -y=201-48 = 153

 

No.of adult = x =153
no.of children = y =48
