I just want to add that if you evaluate db/dt in Michael's solution, you get ≅ 2.87 m/s, which is the same final answer as in my solution.

George,

Please take another look at the expression (49 - 331/2)-1/2 in your last line.  In the parenthesis, one should subtract the square of the height.  The square of the height is 33.  What do you think?
