sin(x/2) + cos(x/2) = ?

anyone knows this?

You need the half angle formulas.
 
sin(x/2) = sqrt( (1-cos(x) ) /2 )
 
cos(x/2) = sqrt( (1 + cos(x) )/2)
 
There can be a ± in front of the square roots in some situations.
