Please help me with this !!!! (question in the description)

Question

A data set has a median of 58, and eight of the numbers in the data set are less than the median.
The data set contains a total of n numbers.
If n is even, and none of the numbers in the data set is equal to 58, what is the value of n?

Imagine 16 numbers in the set and, when

put in order from least to greatest, the

8th number is 57 and the 9th number 

is 59.  The median would be the mean,

or average of 57 and 59...

(57+59)/2 = 58

 

Then there would be 8 numbers less

than 58 and 8 numbers greater than

58 with a total of 16 numbers.

 

Thus works for any set of 16 numbers

where the average of the 8th and 9th 

terms is 58.
