4(x + 6) = 6(x - 2)        Distribute the 4 and the 6

4x + 24 = 6x - 12         Subtract 24 from both sides

4x = 6x - 36                 Subtract 6x from both sides

-2x = -36                    Divide by -2 on both sides

x = 18
