another way that gives the same answer but just manipulates a bit differently:

 1/2 + 2/x = 1/x
 
1/2 +2/x - 1/x = 0     think of you have 2  i/x's and take one away !
 
1/2 + 1/x = 0            common denominator of 2*x

 

(x + 2) / 2*x = 0       then mulitply by 2x

 

x + 2 = 0  

 

X + 2 - 2 = 0 - 2    subtract 2 from each side to get x

 

x = -2

I think that the answer is as follows:(1/2) + (2/x) = (1/x); Multiply both sides by x and we obtain (X/2) + 2 =1

then subtract -2 in the two sides, (X/2)= -1 => x=-2

Subtract 2/x from both sides:

 

(1/2) + (2/x) - (2/x) = (1/x) - (2/x)

 

1/2 = -1/x

 

x = -2
