One positive and one negative creates this?

a math question asks one positive and one negative creates this? (two words)

Hmmm...depends on the operation.  Adding may produce a negative or a positive, multiplication or division creates a negative, raising to a power could produce either result depending on what is the power (the negative or positive) and if the power is odd or even.   Lots of possibilities !  Bruce S
