12 + 5X - 8 = 12X -10:

 

first step simplify both sides:

 

  5X + 4 = 12X -1 0

 

  2nd step : Move variables X's to one side and constants to other, change the sign when moving one variable

                from one side to other.

 

     4 + 10 = 12X -5X

           14 = 7X

 

        X = 14/7 = 2
