The snack shack charges $42.40 for 5 hot dogs and 7 burgers or #35 for 7 hot dogs and 4 burgers.  What is the price of a hot dog??

I form two equations,

5H + 7B = 42.4

7H + 4B = 35

then Solve for H in the second

H = (35-4B)/7

replace H in the first equation

5((35-4B)/7) + 7B = 42.4

reorganize equation 1

25 - (20B/7) + 7B = 42.4

(-20B+49B)/7 = 17.4

29B = 121.8 => B = $4.2 The only integer that I see is the number of Burgers or Hot Dogs.

Replacing B and solving for H; H=(35-4*4.2)/7 = $ 2.60 CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
