I am experienced in tutoring accounting and the Bible.
A student earns $13.50 per hour for the first ten hours worked in a week. Thus, for the first ten hours worked in a week a student earns 10x$13.50=$135.00.
For each hour worked over ten hours in a week, a student earns time and a half (1.5 times the rate of pay for the first 10 hours worked in a week), which gives us an hourly rate of pay for each hour worked over ten hours in week of $13.50x1.5. $13.50x1.5=$20.25 for each hour of overtime worked in a week.
Because a student earns time and a half for each hour worked over 10 hours in a week, a student who works 40 hours in a week has worked 40-10=30 hours at time and a half that week.
Thus, for 30 hours a student works at time and a half during a week the student earns 30x$20.25= $607.50
Therefore, a student who works 40 hours in week at a rate of pay for the first 10 hours and time and a half for each hour worked over 10 hours that week is as follows:
10 hours x $13.50 = $135.00 for the first ten hours worked
30 hours x $20.25 = $607.50 for the overtime worked
and:
$135.00 + $607.50 + $742.50 earned for working 40 hours in a week
