A word processor determines the width of the body of text on a page. The page is 9 inches wide and has two equal size margins of x inches on each side of the text. Write a formula that gives the width of the text w (in inches) in terms of the varying width of the margins.

The width of the text, w will be equal to the width of the page minus 2 times the margin size. So,

w = (9 - 2x) inches
