A = (1/2)bh is a very well-known formula. It is for the Area of a triangle.
A = area of the triangle
b = length of base
h = height
Note: Such a triangle is half (that is, 1/2) the area of a rectangle with the same base and height lengths.
To "solve" means to find the values of a variable for which this equation is true. When you have multiple variables, to solve for h just means to get h alone on the left side and some expression on the right side of the equals sign.
A = (1/2)bh
2A = bh
2A/b = h
h = 2A/b [use this formula to find h when you know A and b]
