How do I solve these questions? 

 

How much is:

a) 23 increased by 34%

b) 28 less 65%

a) 23 x 1.34 = 30.82

done another way: take 34% of 23 and then add that value to 23:

0.34 x 23 = 7.82

7.82 + 23 = 30.82

 

b) (1-0.65)(28) = 0.35 x 28 = 9.8

done another way: Find 65% of 28 and then subtract that value from 28:

0.65 x 28 = 18.2

28 - 18.2 = 9.8
